Modern Ruin: Black Hole

The first half of a film by Jeff Frost • 150,000 photographs in the making combining time lapse footage of riots and optical illusion paintings.

Modern Ruin is a contemplation of the idea that creation and destruction is the same thing (this half of the film focuses on destruction). The white hole from which our universe sprang, and the blackness into which it may disappear testify to as much, yet these bookends of existence are inadequate to address everything in between.

Mirror City Timelapse

“Mirror City is a visual story through some of the great American cities: Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. These clips were all processed from their original form, into the kaleidoscopic visuals that you see in this video. Many people visit these large cities every day, and all of these places have been shot and filmed, but I wanted to emulate these urban landscapes in a way that nobody has even seen before.

The video starts off with simple mirrors and recognizable architecture, as the video progresses, so does the visual stimulation, showing the real abstraction of the piece.”

Directed, Filmed & Edited: Michael Shainblum // Music: Bassnectar – Butterfly (Ft. Mimi Page).

⧔ Absorb ⧕

“Discover the close up landscape of absorption. Observe the magical view point up close and personal to something perhaps ignored in everyday life. A view that uses my own handheld camera movements combined with timelapse footage of pills and tablets taking on red food dye. All the photography was taken with macro extension tubes and a 50mm prime on a crop sensor.”

The Lion City by Keith Loutit

A Singapore timelapse by Keith Loutit // Music by Sepia Productions.

“For ‘The Lion City’, the idea behind the extension of the tilt shift technique is for focus and distance to be something the viewer can experience. It also doubles to communicate the constant heat and humidity that hits you whenever you leave the comfort of air conditioning in Singapore.”
