I Just Want To Drink Coffee, Create Stuff & Sleep

The visual story of the creative process that goes into creating a mural. Made over two days, Ben Johnston designs a custom lettered design & painted mural for Project Owl, a co-working space in Toronto.

The mural embodies what start-up life is all about–some people just want to “drink coffee, create stuff & sleep“.

The video was directed by PJ Lee • Shot by Jason Rodricks, PJ Lee & Evan Bellam.

Font Men

You may not have heard of Jonathan Hoefler or Tobias Frere-Jones but you’ve seen their work. Before their recent split they ran the most successful and well respected type design studio in the world, creating fonts used by everyone from the Wall Street Journal to the President of the United States.

Font Men, gives a peek behind the curtain into the world of Jonathan and Tobias. Tracking the history of their personal trajectories, sharing the forces that brought them together and giving an exclusive look at the successful empire they built together.

Directed & Produced by Dress Code • Cinematography by Andre Andreev.

Stop & Look: Typographic Mural by Ben Johnston

“Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop & look around once in a while, you could miss it”

Ben Johnston was asked to create a typographic mural that would inspire young entrepeneurs at Project:Rhino desk space in downtown Toronto. The quote is from Ferris Bueller. He initially sketched the design out, then vectorized and finally painted it on a wall in their lounge that was 230 inches x 130 inches.

It was all done with paint and markers // Filmed & animated by Asterisk Media.

He Saw It, He Loved It, He Ate It.

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters – sometimes very hastily – but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.” – Maurice Sendak (* June 10, 1928 – † May 8, 2012).
